White Lightening

Bolts of joy

"Today, I will look for reasons to feel good, and I will find them....."

There are two numbers that seem to appear often in my life. If I was a numerologist, I would know what they mean. Alas, I am not. I prefer to just notice and enjoy that it makes me feel like someone is looking over me and making sense of things. As if there is a theme. I will share one here and the other in the episode I hope to release today, "Flunch".

10: I love the structure/composition of that freaking number....

I was raised by an army of people. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, but most importantly my siblings and my mom. Each have played an important role, but today I will talk about my sister, Missy.

Missy was a powerhouse athlete in her childhood and teenage years. She is 8 years older, and I was enamoured by her prowess throwing and catching the ball. She was on a competitive softball team called White Lightening. She was the aggressive first base(wo)man, and I was allowed to be the bat girl. I would travel to games on the team bus and sing pump up songs along with the team. They made me feel I was one of them, like they were all my big sisters. In a time of chaos, I felt things were slightly in control in team sports. I continue to remember those songs and cheers even now. In fact, I used one to win a sorority/fraternity contest in college years later.

She was number 10.

Since then (I was about 6), ten has always been my favorite number.

My favorite album is Pearl Jam's TEN. I was supposed to marry Eddie Vedder (there's still time). That album has also influenced my daughter's music taste and style of playing/singing.

I always pick 10 in games. I always work out on bench 10. I recently realised it is coincidentally the birthday of someone I care about.

Today is the 10th. It's a good day.
